To optimize data retrieval and analysis for new construction projects on Madlan’s platform, research was conducted to identify user needs and streamline the workflow. The resulting changes led to a 65% reduction in data collection time, while enhancing the quality and coverage of insights displayed on the website.

Context

Madlan’s database of current and upcoming construction projects in Israel includes key details such as floor count, usage, project status, and involved stakeholders. This data supports various website features with significant business and PR impact.

Previously, the Informatics team manually gathered this data by analyzing public planning documents. I was tasked with exploring and defining a more efficient approach to streamline data retrieval and analysis, aiming to improve both operational efficiency and the quality of insights provided to website users.

Goals

  • Increase Efficiency: Automate the data-gathering process for construction projects to reduce manual effort, allowing the Informatics team to focus on higher-value tasks.

  • Expand Data Coverage and Quality: Broaden the range of insights available on the website by improving the quality and geographical coverage of project data, enhancing the overall user experience.

Methodology

To design an efficient, automated data retrieval workflow, a combination of stakeholder interviews, task analysis, user surveys, and data source research was used. This approach provided insights into existing inefficiencies and automation opportunities, ensuring the final workflow aligned with both user needs and business objectives.
